Why is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 unpopular?
I don't normally listen to Mendelssohn, but I stumbled upon the symphony the other day and thought it was great. I figured that it must have been his most popular, considering it is also a choral symphony. But then I realized that I was wrong. His more popular symphonies are the "Italian" and the "Scottish" symphonies. Also, the second doesn't seem to have as many preformances as I figured. I find that very strange, and I would like to know if there's a reason for this.
Edit: When I went to put this question out, Yahoo answers automatically set it to be in the Rap-Hip hop section. Can someone explain that?!

Basically, because it's very long (about 75 minutes), requires 3 vocal soloists & chorus, and it isn't as interesting as the Scottish, Italian, or Reformation symphonies.

I have a soft spot for Mendelssohn's 'Hymn of Praise' (one of the Second Symphony's alternative titles). The second part (the choral part) does lose momentum at times and it's quite a demanding 'listen' for audiences. One could never pretend, I think, that it is nearly as fine a work as, say, Beethoven's Choral Symphony.
As Anna-Sofie has correctly stated, this Symphony demands extended forces, which makes it very expensive to perform, which creates a very real financial risk for promoters if they are not sure they can sell enough tickets to cover the costs.
