What did Glenn Gould think of these composers?
I know that Gould loved Bach and polyphony and such, and I know that he rejected most of the Romantic era piano composers (Like Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann). I also know that he apparently didn't like Beethoven nor Mozart (which really surprised me). Does anyone know what Gould thought about all these composers?
2 AnswersClassical9 years agoWhy do many teenagers compare classical and metal?
Or at least I'm pretty sure they are teenagers...
Anyway, where did the idea this idea come from? Who actually believes that heavy metal is only a stone throw away from western art music?
Thanks in advance.

7 AnswersClassical9 years agoWhat is the name of this modern sculpture?
The sculpture is of just a woman's head. I can't remember the name of it, but it is on display at the Art Institute of Chicago. Here is a picture of it:

If someone could give me the name, and the artist, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

4 AnswersMathematics10 years agoWhere did the term "Chamber music" come from?
When describing Quartets, Quintets, Trios, and Duets, the pieces are usually catagorized under "Chamber works". Who first used this term and why?
4 AnswersClassical10 years agoWhy is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 unpopular?
I don't normally listen to Mendelssohn, but I stumbled upon the symphony the other day and thought it was great. I figured that it must have been his most popular, considering it is also a choral symphony. But then I realized that I was wrong. His more popular symphonies are the "Italian" and the "Scottish" symphonies. Also, the second doesn't seem to have as many preformances as I figured. I find that very strange, and I would like to know if there's a reason for this.
2 AnswersClassical10 years agoHow do directors keep cameras out of mirror shots?
Whenever a character is looking in a mirror, the camera is never seen. Sometimes it makes sence, considering the angle the shot is being taken from. But in Black Swan, for example, Nina is dancing in the room with mirrors on the walls and there is no camera in sight. How do film makers do this?

My piano teacher thinks the next piece I should work on should be by Bach. I've never played Bach before, so what are some good pieces by him that I can start out with?

8 AnswersClassical10 years agoWhat are some pieces for the end of the world?
I'm looking for classical music that could depict the world after the apocalypse. Are there any pieces that come to mind? (I'm looking for both quiet and loud pieces. Also, I prefer orchestral or piano music.)

I really can't decide on my favorite. I'd have to narrow it down to Liszt's Sonata in B minor, Chopin's Sonata No. 2, or Scriabin Sonata No. 6. What about you guys?
2 AnswersClassical1 decade agoAm I the only one who doesn't like Lady Gaga's new single?
Born This Way came out the other day and, to tell you the truth, I was disappointed. My issue is the song's beat. It's crazy and all over the place. Some parts of the song, the beat is louder than Lady Gaga's voice. I didn't listen to that song for techno, I listened to it for the only modern pop singer that I like to listen to. Besides, the song sounds way too much like Madonna than Gaga. But I don't expect the rest of her new album is going to be the same style, after hearing the remix of Anatomy of Change (I don't know if that's what it's called). So who agrees with me?
8 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoDo singers who use classical music in their songs annoy you?
I used to like when artists used classical pieces, or were influenced by classical pieces, in their own songs. But then, I started to notice that a lot of people thought the singer composed the classical portions as well as their song.
For example; Muse uses classical pieces in their songs sometimes. One song, Butterflies and Hurricanes (or something like that) quotes Rachmaninov's Second and Third piano concerti. But people on YouTube comment that they are so smart to write such music when they really didn't write it!
Another song they made is called "United States of Eurasia + Collateral Damage" Collateral Damage is what they call their ossia of Chopin's Nocturne No. 2 and, once again, everyone thinks that Muse wrote the nocturne!
And sooo many people believe Barry Manilow wrote Chopin's Prelude No. 20, which he uses in his song "Could it be Magic"
What is your opinion on these types of artists? Do you think them using classical music is a good thing or a bad thing?
