Horse poll? (20 characters.)?

Little bored, and mostly just curious. (: Let's see if I can ask some questions you don't normally hear.

1. What do you think is the most important quality in a rider?

2. What is your biggest strength as a rider?

3. What is you biggest weakness as a rider?

4. In your opinion what is the worst habit/ect that a horse could have? (i.e Barn sour, Rearing, ect.)

5. How important are horses in your life?

6. Anything in riding/with horses you wished you could go back and change or redo?

7. How many different horses have you rode? Do think it is any advantage to ride different horses often?

8. Anything else interesting? :D

Just a fun, short little poll whatnot. The first question really is the one I'm most curious about. (:

    1. What do you think is the most important quality in a rider?

    - Patience & understanding

    2. What is your biggest strength as a rider?

    -Patience

    3. What is you biggest weakness as a rider?

-Expecting too much too fast. I get excited when I teach my horses something new & sometimes push them too far to fast & forget they just learned it & get frusterated when they don't perfect everytime.

    4. In your opinion what is the worst habit/ect that a horse could have? (i.e Barn sour, Rearing, ect.)

-Aggressive behavior (kicking, biting etc..) I hate dangerious unpredicable horses. To me that's a breeding/perspnailty flaw that can't always be trainned out. It's my number one NO NO! But then again it can just be a result of a bad owner & can be fixed.

    5. How important are horses in your life?

    - Without them I'm depessed & am not myself. They seriously have made me who I am today. I was shy when I was younger, never was "great" at anything, horses gave me a chance to "shine" & brought me out of my shell. They got me through the stress of college, without them there with me I think my grades could have tanked & I could have gotten into a lot of trouble. My life with horses defines me. The slightest thought of not having them in my life bring serious tears to my eyes! I can not express in words what they mean to me.

    6. Anything in riding/with horses you wished you could go back and change or redo?

    - Starting my mare... well not so much starting her, that went well. It was her years 5-7 she didn't get ridden enough & the correct type of continuos tranning & a lot of the tranning/ground work from1-4 was lost. She's 10 now & I'm having issues & having to re-start her tranning.

    7. How many different horses have you rode? Do think it is any advantage to ride different horses often?

    - there was a questionon here once that I counted the horses I have ridden, I think it was about 40. I think it is some what of an advantage because you don't get "set in you ways" that way.. but I don't it makes or breaks you as a good rider or not.

    8. Anything else interesting?

To me the best horseman & women are those whom treat their horses the same if not better when others aren't looking. Who are consistant & caring & don't treat their horses only as objects to bring themselves money, ego, & prestiege.

*Great questions! Really made me think!

    1. Patience, passion for horses.

    2. Dont panic when the horse spooks or get angry.

    3. Dont like ground work, prefer to be jumping.

    4. Bucking

    5. They are my life.

    6. Not sell my first horse.

    7. Got my 5 and been riding since i was 5, so 100? And yeah, big advantage.

    8. HORSES FTW.

    1. Trust. If there's no trust, it won't work. It's as simple as that.

    2. The connection I have with the horses I ride. That's one of my favorite parts : bonding.

    3. My heels. They are constantly slipping up during jumping. I'm working on it though.

    4. I think anything that means the horse is bored. That's not a good sign.

    5. Very. They've helped me with a lot, like confidence. Horses are really important to me.

    6. I stopped riding for around a year, due to moving house and personal reasons. It wasn't a good time.

    7. At the stables I go to, I more or less ride a different horse each week. I think it's important to get experience on different horses unless you have your own. All horses have different temperaments and styles, it's important to be a rounded rider.

    8. I am considering buying a Throughbred, age 4, called Beau. He's amazing, the kindest horse I know.

Great question by the way! :)

    1. Determination to keep learning and improving

    2. To accept I am doing something wrong and I need to fix it

    3. Getting nervous

    4. Bucking

    5. Very, they make up about 33% right now (with 33% being school and the last 33% being my boyfriend)

    6. Get rid of the cocky attitude I had several years ago, I could have improved so much then if I hadn't felt I knew it all.

    7. A lot, and there is some advantage to it as it helps keep a rider focused and concentrating on the horses actions, and quickening the reflexes as you won't be able to easily anticipate a spook at a certain spot or something like that like you can with a horse you know well.

    8. If you work at the barn the next day, GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP! Now if I could only follow my own advice on that. Last three times working at the barn I've stayed up all night, not intending to either any of those times.

    1) i think paitience is a very improtant quality.

    2) Staying calm and not stressing when things go wrong

    3) My confidence when jumping and doubting myself

4)Rearing is a dangerous habit but for me not the worst, i think bolting is the worst because the horses often are in a blind panick and take no notice of the rider.

    5) very, spent the last 8 years with horses and learnt a lot

6)hmm, thats a tough one, everything i have done has taught me something so i dont think i would change anything

    7) I have ridden more than i can remember, old, young, lazy, fresh, cold backed, tb, arabs, cob. I think riding a wide variety of horses teaches you to actually ride.

    8) nope, had some ups and downs, and some falls, been stood on all the normal stuff lol

    1. Patience

    2. Kind Hands

    3. Lack of stamina LOL.

    4. I hate bad ground manners.

    5. Can't be without them.

    6. No, wouldn't change anything.

    7. Have lost count. Yes it is an advantage because all horses will have their own personal "quirks".

    1. Patience.

    2. Patience and consistency.

    3. I sometimes get upset with myself if things don't go like planned.

    4. hmm...sourness. it's hard to fix.

    5. VERY. I live and breathe horses. I'm at the barn pretty much 24/7 riding as many horses as i can.

    6. Nope :)

    7. I've ridden way to many to count and i'm only 16..I think its a great thing! I learn how to ride many different types of horses. The kick ride, the woah ride, the bucker, etc.

    8. I have a large pony who is the most important part of my life (: she is very easy going and will do just about anything for me.

    1. Patience and a good seat

    2. Strength as in physical strength or what your good at strength? I'll answer both :) My legs are pretty darn strong and I excel at hunter

    3. I'm feeling myself developing a chair seat.. yikes

    4. Ohh, thats hard. I'd probably have to say barn sour.

    5. VERY :) They made me who I am today

    6. I wish I would have started riding when I was a lot younger. Like 4 or so, not 13 :)

    7. 12 :) I think it does make you a better rider if you ride several different horses. For example, this one horse I used to ride had an EXTREMELY choppy and bumpy trot. Just awful. I learned how to sit his trot, and now I can sit anything

    8. I practically JUST bought a horse :) Like 2 weeks ago

    1. Patience and Passion equally. You have to have patience when the horse is having a bad day and passion to keep you hungry for the sport.

    2. I have VERY quiet hands and a very good seat.

    3. I don't have enough confidence so I doubt my ability a lot. I also have issues keeping my heels down, but I have found a way to do that better. So we're working on it. (Past injuries prevent me from fully keeping my left heel down).

    4. I don't like Biters. I can stand an occasional rear or buck, but not a horse that does full on Bucking Bronc.

    5. I have a daughter now, so they're not as important as they used to be. However, they're a huge part of my life. I ride my horse daily. It's like taking a bath or doing the laundry. I make time for it even when my day is busy.

    6. I wish I would have learned to jump when I was younger and was less nervous to do so :P.

    7. Currently we have 5 horses. I have ridden 4 of the 5. In my lifetime I've ridden more than I can possibly count. Probably 30+ horses.

    8. My horse did well in her training today!!! Yay!
