Do dogs get too attached to dog walkers?
I am asking this as we do not have that service here. My dog loves going for walks, and I was wondering if you have a dog walker, would your dog start preferring that person to you?
Thanks everyone. I don't need a walker, I walk her myself - but I have seen them on the TV in films etc and was just wondering that was all...........

Hi,
Don't worry about this. It is true that your dog will become somewhat attached to a dog walker but never more so that she is to you. After all, you are the one who feeds her and plays with her and the one who she lives with.

A dog needs to be walked regularly as i'm sure you know. If you are not in the position of being able to walk your dog then something definitely needs to be organised so that it gets exercise.
Your concern should be with the dog living the way a dog should and having regular exercise, it is not important that the dog may establish a relationship with the walker, obviously it will have a relationship with them as it should and will need to. If you start to thing in this human way about your dog, the dog may feel your emotions and you will see problems that aren't there or create an issue due to you anxiety.
Remember the dog is a dog and doesn't think like you. If you treat the dog well, with love, attention and activity then it will love you in return and there is nothing worng with it loving all that it comes across. You are its owner and it knows this and will treat you duly.

No, probably not. A dog walker typically walks the dog for like 20 minutes. The owner spends hours with the dog each day.

On the basis that, for dogs, there are usually two things in their lives that make them tick, food and walkies, I'd suggest the person who exercises them will become pretty important in their lives. For sure the person who take a pack of hounds out is number one in their focus. When it becomes too much of an attachment, I'm not sure. But actually it's probably good that they do form a relationship with their walker, so that even if they are always on a lead, they do listen to his commands?
