Hooking a computer up[ to a TV.?

I am getting a new Toshiba 40" Diagonal 1080p Full Hi-Def LCD TV in a few days and I am wondering if I can hook my laptop up to it so I can watch netflix streaming movies and other videos from the internet on it.

Here is a link to the page with what the tv comes with

Looking at the specs and pictures of that Toshiba 40 inch. television, it does have a PC/Laptop input. You would need to purchase a VGA to VGA cable to connect your laptop to the back of this television. The image of your laptop would be on your television. However as far as sound it would come from your laptop and not to the television when you are connecting the laptop to your television. You would have to use external speakers from your laptop. There is no direct connection from your laptop to the back of the television that supports the sound.

    or

The only way you would get image and sound from your laptop to your televsion would be if your laptop has a HDMI port. Then you can use a HDMI cable from your laptop to this television. So first check to see if you have a HDMI port on your laptop. If you don't then you would use the VGA cable instead of HDMI cable.
