Preventative maintenance for an older truck?

I have a 2004 GMC and its still pretty. It runs great and has 129000 miles. What should I do to keep it up besides oil changes? I feel like if I ask a mechanic he,she will try to sell me everything under the sun.

Your GMC could last for another 200K miles or it could blow up tomorrow. No one knows for sure. If you have an owner's manual for the truck, then read the part about preventive maintenance and follow the recommendations you find there.

Keep engine oil changed every 3-5K, coolant changed about every two years or so, Trans fluid about every 25K, or more often if doing a lot of towing/hauling, brake fluid needs to be replaced about every 2 to 3 years or moisture will build up in the lines and cause problems, differential gear oil needs to be changed every few years.

air filters are very important as well, some use an inner filter hidden by the outer filter
