Thoughts for clarification...?

The Quran says that God is beyond begetting a child. But is it possible that God "claimed" Christ as His son. I have heard that it is possible that John 3:16 was mistranslated and that it should read, "His only legitimate son" rather than "His only begotten son".

Update:

ALHAMDU LILLAH - I am still learning. I have only begun reading the Quran. I am currently a Christian but I don't agree with everything that many other Christians do. I believe that Jesus was sent to bring us a law of peace and kindness and that he died for my sins. But I do not believe that he is God or that he is equal to God. He is a servant of God and held in high regard for his sacrifice.

    3. "He begets not, nor was He begotten;

    I would suppose it is possible, in the case of this mistranslation. There have been several cases of mistranslation or misinterpretation of phrases in the Bible. For example Jesus never literally claimed to be God's son, but probably used a similar expression which was not literal. Many such statements that were misunderstood or misused were meant to show Jesus as "a son of God" in the sense that we all are, or "a son of God" as a term for a holy man, a prophet of God. Not "the son of God" in the literal sense. I don't remember all of the details of these ideas anymore, but when I was taking my Bible Literature class we talked about many instances of misunderstanding, mistranslation, and exaggeration which may have changed the course of the religion. It is quite interesting.

    No where in the bible is an UNEQUIVOCAL statement that Jesus is the begotten son of God.

    No where !!

    This is utter blasphemy...

    He is only a son in the sense we are ALL sons...but NEVER in a literal sense.

    In the bible Adam is also "Son of God" - This term was a common term given to any HOLY man in the time of Jesus and before.

    The raising of Jesus to Godhead is a lie perpertrated at the Council of Nicea in Ad 4th Century

    This was a fabrication to dilute monotheistic worship and lead people astray so that the rulers and kings and governments could manipulate public opinion and give more credence to secular states.

    The Roman rulers saw the power of FAITH in God, and could NEVER let the TRUE teachings of Jesus become manifest.

    They do the same today. Lie and discredit the prophet Muhammed (pbuh), make muslims out to be backwards and "living in the dark ages" in order to promote "democracy" and secular lifestyles so that we buy more CORPORATION products and excuse the CORPORATE ravaging of the 3rd World for resources.

    By making secularism as right and religiousity as backward, they can get away with phony wars for oil and resource and get away with the slaughter of millions in the name of "progress"

    If people were Godly and monotheistic - i guarentee you, not a single corporation would survive today

    and people would have lynched the bankers and the dividers of humanity, and would never allow their lies and corporate greed to thrive.

    Protestant scholars of highest eminence say that word 'begotten' in John 3:16 is a fabrication. That statement from these scholars enough to declare that Bible is not the word of God as God cannot make mistakes and neither can God allow His revelations to be replaced by fabricated words.
