Eye surgery for a 15 month old?

My daughter is 15 months old and had to go see a specialist for her eyes on Tuesday due to them going cross. After she finished the exam, she said that my daughter's eyes were not responding the way they should be if glasses were going to work. She also has a lazy eye. She has to wear a patch for 4 hours a day to correct that. The doctor said she wanted to at least try glasses for 2 months in case they do end up helping her. But she said it is not likely that they are going to work and she is probably going to need surgery to correct the crossed eyes.has anyone had experience with this? My nerves are completely shot just thinking about her having surgery!

ideally this should be you and ur partners decision and no one else's input should affect your decision.

I would look at the risk and possible complications and compare it to the benefits..

what exactly will the surgery do?

is the problem that bad - that it need extreme measures to fix? worth the risk?

if you dont get the surgery what will happen? what treatment method etc will you do?

if you dont get the surgery and the problem doesn't fix what implications will occur? is she going to be able to do everything fine and her eyes will just look cross eyed? or will she not be able to get her licences etc because her eye sight will be muddled.

These are questions you should really be thinking about (i would be) factoring into the decision making process. I would consider all the "what if's" and how it effects current age and future (maybe childhood, teenager, adult etc).

The joy of being a parent and having to make life changing decision's for children!

But anyways my input - I personally don't no the severity of the eyes so i would prob go with the eye patch and glasses etc and no surgery.

I HOPE I HELPED A BIT! and GOOD LUCK!

    Help with mine.

It is totally nerve racking to contemplate any surgery at all, but it is a relatively simple surgery that is done with some frequency. I really like that your doctor wants to try the conservative approach first. If you are worried get another opinion about it. Also, you can ask your doc for another family who has been through it that you might be able to talk to. Good luck.
