What do you think of Charles Daly 1911's?

I just saw in one of my magazines that Charles Daly closed it's doors in 2010...I knew of them but did not really take any interest in them. I thought they were a pretty big player in the 1911 and shotgun platforms. What kind of opinion do you have of their 1911's?

Older Charles Daly 1911's were built in the Philippines by Armscor, makers of Rock Island Armory. I would certainly buy one.

Newer Charles Daly 1911's were built in Israel by an Israeli company, I don't recall their name. I don't know enough about these to say one way or another. If the price was right I'd take a chance on one.

I didn't think they made them anymore, but they're an okay 1911. I still have 0 experience with them, so I would recommend Rock Island Armory or the Springfield GI if you want an inexpensive 1911. They aren't as accurate or tight as something you pay a little more for, but they'll do the job.

Another 1911 which I think is a much better product if you can find one is the Norinco 1911A1. It's almost an exact copy of a Colt 1911A1. Many people I know used to buy these for about $300 and then build them into target guns since it was an exact copy of the Colt. I don't know how easy they are to get now, but if you get one, don't pass it up.

If you want something for a concealed carry purpose, I would suggest the RIA in a shorter barrel length. I know the 3.5" barreled ones are easier to find than the 4.5". I had a 5". The Springfield GI is also available in what they call the "Champion" style. And that's a 4" barrel.

I've heard that the Charles Daly works. There are dozens of reviews on them on YouTube too. Like any 1911 though, keep in mind that it may take a tiny bit of work to get it to run perfectly. Some work perfect out of the box, some do not. I find it less of a problem on the guns that are not as tightly fitted, but you aren't going to get as accurate of a gun as if you bought something like say a Nighthawk or a Les Baer.

To be honest, I would highly suggest saving your money and getting something like a Colt, Smith & Wesson or Springfield for a 1911.

They are alright. I would save up for an Ed Brown or Kimber, but if you absolutely must have one asap Charles Daly is ok.

If it truly is not broken, why restoration it? changing a firing pin because of the fact it truly is rarely been replaced is like changing the engine in a automobile. you need to truly purely exchange issues in case you're having a concern with them. the comparable is going for the spring and bushing. in the event that they artwork super (i.e., brass ejects in a relentless trend, for one), leave it on my own. unquestionably, that is going for the slide besides, yet while the seem of the slide is bothering you, properly, it truly is a concern. :-D

I think they are Turkish and are being sold under a different brand for about $350.
