How long can a commander keep you on a Drill Weekend (Reservists)?
I have some friends in the Marine Reserve. They are kept at their unit for periods of time that far exceed 8 hours (ie 2 drill periods).
I was under the impression that a drill day was 2, four hour drill periods, for which they are paid. It only seems fair that they would be paid an additional drill period if they are forced to stay longer.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Any Marine Corps Orders, etc. (I'm trying to do research on it now).
Thank you.
Edit: Sorry, maybe I wasn't being clear. I don't mean "How long can they keep you on Active Duty"...I mean, "How long can they keep you at the training site on Drill Weekends" while a Reservist.

Your commander has the right to keep you for the entire weekend period - straight through to Sunday at 2400. Often, units do weekend training that includes overnights. It is not at all unusual for a unit to schedule a MUTA-5 (Multiple Unit Training Assembly) which begins on Friday night and ends Sunday evening for downrange training. (You do get an extra day pay for that Friday night.) a four hour drill period is worth one day's pay, which means you get FOUR days pay for a two day drill (MUTA-4) and FIVE for a MUTA-5. So a reservist is compensated at twice the rate as a Regular Army soldier. (During summer camp or any other active period, the pay is only one day's pay for a day's work.)
I was a regular Army soldier for 7 years and then spent 13 as a full-time AGR. Soldiers do not get paid for ovdertime because they are on duty 24/7. Reservists or guardsmen are on duty all weekend. Normally, the hours are like a normal duty day, but technically the commander can keep you as long as s/he needs you as long as are released by Sunday at 2400.
Military people understand this, and for the most part accept it as just another part of the sacrifice required to do the job. Considering that the job is protecting our nation, our families and our way of life, most of us think it's worth it.

A drill period is not a whole day, a drill period is only half the day that is why a day consists of 2 drills. Idk where Rick Rodney gets his info but he is incorrect i have spent 4 years active and 2 years reserves in the marine corp. The average e-4 in the military gets about 122 per day. Thats including both drills. So if one drill was one drill there making 61 dollars a day? Yeah definetly not right information. However your commander does have the right to keep you longer than 4 hours per drill. He can keep everyone up there all day and only required to have it counted as 2 drills.

Federal Regulation: Drill is no less than 4 hours, no more than 12. Unless you are doing a 4-drill which is min 16 and max of 48 hours, or a 5 drill which you can be kept 60 hours.

If the commander feels that training was ineffective or unsatisfactory he can keep them for an additional 4 hours...
Meaning when you go to your drill weekend you don't spend the time reading the paper or sleeping or updating your facebook account.
The Commander can of course just enter a page 13 record entry in the reservist service record and they won't get credit for that time.

If a militia reservist did no longer take place for reserve meetings, he ought to desire to receive a dishonorable discharge for being AWOL. This occurred to John Kerry, who surpassed over 2 years (ninety six meetings) collectively as he grew to grow to be optimal antiwar rallies. 6 years later, Kerry gained a pardon from newly elected President Jimmy Carter.

until the job is done. my father averaged 10-12 hour days on Sat/Sun and at least 4 hours on Friday.. and only got paid for the normal drill period.

they can activate you for as long as they want.
i once met a reservist who had been activated for 5 of his 6yr contract..
if he had signed for active service his contract would have been 4yrs.
