Is learning violin at 18 a good idea?

I haven't actually started yet, but I really want to. but I never hear of people starting at 18, usually people start at 5 or something crazy. I'm not aiming to play professionally in an orchestra, just as a hobby. I play piano too.

does anyone who play violin have a recommendation whether I should start or not?

also I'm left handed, I'd play normally. not sure if this would make it even harder or not..

Update:

by 'I'd play normally' I mean I wouldn't try to get a left handed violin, just use a regular one

There is a Chinese proverb that the best time to plant a tree is long ago.

The second best time to plant a tree is now.

You can start any time you want. It's not realistic to expect a solo career starting that late, but plenty of people play for their own enjoyment starting as adults.

Lefties have an advantage playing violin because the difficult detail work is done with the left hand.

Yes, I'm being told that we're too old to learn with professional ambitions, however, it simply is not too late for you at only 18. You can start looking up a teacher tomorrow, if you want. I remember reading an autobiography about this man who started learning the cello at 50 or something. Title? Never Too Late.

Who the heck say ya can't learn violin at 18. Ya can follow your passion anytime. But if ya think it's wrong, ya can always go for guitar and stuff.

If you have two arms and they serve you, you can.
