Is the U.S. basically back in Hooverville?

My understanding of the 5 or 6 years after the crash of '29, please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the federal government was mainly concerned with the solvency of the big banks that caused the crash in the first place and pretty much ignored the plight of the ever growing impoverished class thereby paralyzing the overall economy by not circulating any currency from the richest to the poorest.

Sound familiar? Is anyone ready for another F.D.R. yet?

The government needed to solidify the banks, and put people back to work. These were the main priorities at that time. FDR created the CCC that put thousands of people to work on various public works projects. This is not what I would call "ignoring" the impoverished class. Half the nation was part of this "impoverished" class, and FDR did everything he could to get them working again. He did all he could do to see that everybody had something to eat. Government cannot just wave a magic wand and "circulate currency from the rich to the poor." This is what jobs do. I get the impression that you feel it is the duty of the goverment to just seize the money of the "rich", and give it to the "poor." No effort need be made for the poor to work for it. The just stand in line, and money is given to them. Yes, that sentiment does sound familiar. That is the welfare state that Obama and the liberals want this country to become. We're getting close, with about 47% of the poeple now paying no income tax at all. The other 53% are hard working, tax paying people, and they supply the government with operating revenue.
