Question about gum paste flowers?
I just made some gum paste roses and I was wondering when I could put them on the cake. Can I put them on before they are completely dry or do I have to wait? The cake is supposed to be delivered Sunday. This is the first time I have worked with gum paste, so I know very little about it. I just made the flowers and put them in a airtight container. Or should I leave them out? Also I used the Wilton Gum Paste Mix powder. Oh and should I freeze the leftover powder or is it okay on the shelf. Thanks in advance. I just asked this question, but I think it was under the wrong area.

For gum paste flowers to dry, they have to be left out in the air. If you put your flowers in an air tight container they will stay soft for a very long time. If your flowers are made from gum paste only (with no fondant added to it) they will dry quite quickly. They should be dry within 24 hours. If they aren't completely dry when you are ready to put them on the cake, that is okay. Drying the flowers completely just lets them hold their shape.
The leftover gum paste powder mix will be fine stored on the shelf.
