Yes we do vote the Members of Parliament in it's called Universal Suffrage; that is to say one man, one vote. Each town, village constituency votes for their MP from several bidders in local elections This person is then their MP and gets to sit in the Houses of Parliament in London. They debate on issues and pass laws. These laws then go to the Higher Chamber or House of Lords where the Peers of the Realm debate it and vote whether to accept it into the legal system or not.At this stage they can veto (vote against) a motion to throw it out. Local government consists of a Town Council, also voted in by the people who decide on local issues like how the public spending budget is spent; on roads, hospitals, refuse collection, amenities planning permission for new buildings etc.

The Queen does not choose the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the leader of whichever party has been voted into power e.g. the Conservatives as now or Labour as with Tony Blair or the Social Democrats and a few others. She formally invites the Prime Minister to form a Government and she does meet with him or her every week to discuss the business of Parliament but she has no real power. Her role is a ceremonial one as in the State Opening of Parliament, an occasion of great pomp and ceremony where she wears the Crown and the State robes and reads out the Queen's Speech, setting out the aims and hopes for the new Parliamentary session. She cannot declare war, sign treaties or dissolve Parliament although, in theory, she could. Her role now is one of P.R. playing host to visiting monarchs and Presidents and touring other countries as an ambassador for Great Britain.

    Me again!

The queen has overall power, but she would never rock the boat. When it says she chooses the prime minister, yeah, she does, but we vote him in, then he goes to the queen who says "I want him (or her)"

She can also stop laws being passed, but again, she won't do it. If it goes past Commons and Lords then she won't argue, she'll just sign. She may seem powerful, but she really has very little control over the country.

Our Queen does not have those powers. Our monarchy does not rule England.
