Birth control question?

So, I know I just asked a question and all, but I was wondering about birth control.

So here's my questions:

Does it really start working exactly 1 month after you start taking them?

Do they normally make you have a longer than normal period when you first take them?

What happens if I don't take them at the EXACT same time everyday?

Thanks in advance!

Update:

I know if you take them as prescribed they are 99% effective.. I just meant if I start them on like, September 1st. Is it safe as long as I don't miss any pills to assume they will work on October 1st.

If you take them exactly as prescribed, they work 99% of the time.
