Im a dog groomer. Head and shoulders is actually OK to use on dogs but you want to stay away from other human shampoos. The head and shoulders will help with dandruff but not the itchiness. Oatmeal shampoo is best. Most likely your dog is allergic to something. Probably your food. Low end foods like Beneful, Pedigree, Kibbles, Iams and Purina(except Pro Plan) aren't the best choice for your dog. When looking for dog foods ONLY choose a food where the first listed ingredient is a real meat like chicken, lamb or beef not grains soy or by-products.Try getting them on Nutro(Natural Choice). They have a hypoallergenic meal for dogs. You can also get The Missing Link sold at most pet stores. Its an Omega 3 and 6 powder supplement to spread on your dogs food. Hope this helps.

You'll want to consult a Vet to rule out possible causes. If you use a shampoo that doesn't address the dogs' need you could very possibly make the problem worse. There are different medicated shampoos formulated for dogs for specific conditions of skin and coat. Since this is bothering your dog so much, a Vet recommended shampoo (after examining your dog of course) would be best. A fish oil capsule added to your dogs diet by puncturing a gel cap and squeezing it over the food can help. There could be something in the environment that she is reacting to, whether bug bites, (even one or two fleas can wreak havoc on a dog with allergies, and so can mosquitoes, ants etc.) It could be a fungal or yeast infection. This is why you need to take her to a Vet. Sometimes a dog with a skin condition that has gotten pretty bad, needs intervention including cortizone shot, antibiotics- to allow preventatives to keep the condition from recurring.

1 How old are you? How old were you when you started breaking out? I'm 18 now. I started breaking out when I was 16. Never really had much acne before then. 2 Is your skin always clear, do you get spots sometimes, or do you almost always have a breakout? I get pimples near my period. I usually get one of two somewhere around my mouth, and maybe the odd one around my forehead. They usually clear up once my period's done though. 3 What face wash do you use? Clean and Clear Morning Burst (the purifying one in the blue bottle). 4 Do you use face masks or scrubs or anything? What kind? I use St. Ives products for this. I use their clay firming mask at night (sometimes I skip it, but I try to do it quite a few nights a week). I also use their Apricot scrub once or twice a week. 5 What brand make up do you wear? What do you wear (foundation, concealor?, ect) Just drug store brands. I like Maybelline and Cover Girl products. I change the brand I use frequently because I'm looking for the best product for my skin (most of the best products I've used are Cover Girl). 6 How much makeup do you wear? Usually just concealer, foundation, and a bit of mascara. Sometimes some eyeshadow too. 7 What spot treatments do you use? Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5. I put that on any pimples before I go to bed. 8 Do you eat junk food or healthy? I eat both healthy foods and junk food. Probably a bit too much junk food, but oh well. I also drink a lot of water. Water's a big help.

No dont use that shampoo on her. Human shampoos are made for humans. It can make the skin condition worse. Human shampoos work for our skins only and dogs can skin react differently especially since head and shoulders has medication in it. Go to your vet. She is probably allergic to something you are unaware of and she needs to be tested for it and get treated for that specific thing. Last year my german shepherd had the same thing only to find out hes allergic to flea bites.

She may have an allergy to her food she may be allergic to the protein or something. Try a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, head and shoulders is fine. Works wonders on my pitty during summer. You could also try benedryl for allergies if it helps than you know there's something in her environment you can change. Good Luck.

you need to take to vet and get tested and yes it is expensive
otherwise you try and reject until you find what is causing it
human shampoo can irritate dog skin more

first of all it is probably stress that is causing it. and second use soap free shampoo it will help.
