I just started playing the game..what exactly is the point of unlocking a champion if they're already playable anyway?thanks.

If you bought the game then you already purchased all the champions and you dont have to unlock any. Although if you just downloaded it for free, the champions that you currently can play change every week, so you have to unlock the champions that you want to play even after it isnt free anymore.
