Exactly how powerful is the hand grenade?
I only ask because "Hollywood" keeps changing the rules and I'm rather curious!

An M67 can kill within a radius of 5 meters and seriously wound within a radius of 15. Shrapnel can travel even farther than that.

The grenade now used by the United States army is the M67 grenade.
It contains 180 grams of Composition B explosives detonated by a 4 second fuse.
Anyone within 5 metres when it detonates is almost certain to be killed, those within 15 metres will be seriously injured if not killed, in addition it can send shrapnel flying over 200 metres which may cause additional casualties and damage.

Depends which grenade?
I'm british, we use a slightly more powerful grenade.
The L109 A1 HE Frag Grenade is Lethal to an Unprotected target Up to 20 Metres
And Lethal to a Protected target up to 5 Metres.
Pro tip: Hollywood is always wrong, all the time.

In Hollywood, grenades make big explosions, with lots of fire and stuff.
Real grenades have a small charge, but, zillions of little pieces of flying metal. That's what does the damage - not the blast itself, but, all the shrapnel, that shreds anything it comes across. The actual blast is fairly small.

HA HA NOTHING like hollywood grenades, which is just as well, if they were as powerfull as that they would be unusable. They have a lethal range of about twenty meters,(( open ground)) but its the shrapnel that causes the damage at that extreme range, not the power of the explosion its self. If they were as powerfull as Hollywood depicts you would never be able to throw the bloody thing far enough.
