Last night our smoke detector went off and now my 15 month old is acting different?

When I was cocking dinner our smoke detector went off and my husband pulled up a chair to turn it off. Our daughter who is 15 months old started going crazy, mostly because of the chair I think. Now she will not let us out of her sight, and is having a hard time falling asleep. She gets scared when we are above her now and when wants to be held all the time. which is not like her at all. Please help, she screamed all day tonight, I could not do anything to help her!

Go about your business as usual and don't pick her up more than you usually would--don't hold her all the time. She needs to get used to the fact that smoke detectors are a part of life. Or, set it off throughout the day so she becomes desensitized by it and gets over her issues. Coddling her with it is only going to make it worse. Again, she'll get over it eventually.

She's probably scared! How does she know it won't go off again?! I'd just wait it out, and see how it goes. Good luck/

Source(s): My friends baby boy did that, after a few days/weeks he stopped. Comfort her!(:
