Is Tim Thomas a Hall-Of-Fame caliber goalie?

2 Vezinas

1 Conn Smythe

NHL Record GAA

And he delivered the Bruins their first Stanley Cup Championship in 39 years...

All in 6 full seasons of being an NHL goaltender

Is Tim Thomas Hall Of Fame worthy? Or does he still need a few more good seasons?

No he is not. I really like Tim Thomas, but even I will admit that he is no hall-of-famer. He's done great in recent years, but has he made a huge impact throughout his whole career? No, not even close.

  • Not based on his current body of work which is frankly lacking.

He got benched in 2009-10 for Tuukka Rask and Boston was openly trying to unload him after the end of the 2009-10 season because of his contract (good thing they didn't).

Thomas had what was inarguably the greatest single season of any goaltender post-lockout (regular season and playoff SPCT's over .935). HHOF goaltenders don't lose their job like Thomas did (to be fair, he got it back and last year's numbers were off the charts). Plus, it's reasonable to think that Thomas will fall off (he's in his late 30's and had a very short off-season- he played 25 playoff games for the Bruins- they had three 7-game series and a sweep) this year.

If Thomas were 30 or 32 y.o. I'd say he has a chance, but he hasn't played long enough (of your current NHL goaltenders, Brodeur is a lock for the HHOF...after that...it falls off substantially). His international record...meh (he was the backup on the 2010 American Olympic team but other than a mop-up appearance never saw the ice for the Americans).

Cam Ward and J-S Giguere both have Conn Smythe trophies...neither at this point are in the conversation for HHOF entry.

Had he gotten off to an earlier NHL start, probably. As is, he's had a few outstanding seasons, and a few good seasons, but he's 37 years old.

Unfortunately, time might be running out to acquire the long term numbers needed to gain HOF entry.

No he is not! If he would make the hall of fame i would laugh my head off. There's so

Many great young goaltenders in this league who are better than him. If Vancouver had a healthy team with great defenseman Luongo would've won the vezina and the Stanley cup. Thomas had an amazing team infront of him and Vancouver had injured defenseman playing.

As much as I respect Thomas I wouldn't consider him a Hall of Famer, but he might end up in the AMERICAN HHOF. He's a very late bloomer.

Not without another 10 or so GREAT years. Frankly, I don't see it happening.

No one is deserving of HOF induction after only 6 full-seasons...

No. He hasn't played in the NHL long enough.

IMO no, but if he does get in, it won't be for over a decade
