My child is anorexic! Found out by yahoo answers!?
My child is 18 years old, they left there computer switched on and went out, I went to switch the computer off ( because of the electricity prices ) and this is what I find!! Last January they were in hospital but I was told it was due to stomach pains, I have noticed that they have lost a lot of weight, and that they go out all the time mainly around lunch times, in march they were in hospital again, I was working when I received a call saying that my child was going to go into cardiac arrest with chest pains while in college. My child asked while in the hospital to talk to someone (now I think it might have been a eating disorder specialist) and they left the room in a devastated mess. What should I do? I don't know if I should confront my child, if I should ground them from going out so I can monitor them? Any ideas? Thanks in advance

You don't ground an 18 year old! And you don't ground a person for an illness!!!
Don't confront your child either, you invaded your 18 year old's privacy by reading what was on the computer.
If you truly want to help your child, EDUCATE yourself on Anorexia as much as possible. ANOREXIA IS NOT about food - You will find that it is a REACTION of a CONTROL ISSUE.
Help your child, by letting go of the 18 year old who is a young adult now. If your young adult wanted you to know, "they" or more to the point- he or she- would have told you awhile back. We all love our children dearly, but there comes a time when they have to make their own way and their own decisions, we guide and help when asked, we can't take over, or they'll never learn how to live their own lives.
I'm sorry you may not like what I have to say, it's the truth and sometimes we don't want to hear it.

Well, considering you just asked this question on 'your child's' account, they're going to find out you know anyway. Just talk to them about it and be supportive. Encourage them to eat better, and offer healthy options. Anorexics are concerned about their weight and so will not eat anything unhealthy or high in fat, but while recovering can handle light and healthy meals instead. Don't ground them, but do ask to know their eating habits, maybe even suggest a food journal

Don't ground them but definitely confront them and tell them tht ur there for them. Don't be mad or yell at them. Get them help and yes limit how much they go out. Make it a rule that they must be home for family lunches or dinners. U need to show them tht ur there to help and support them in getting healthier. They may at first seem defensive bt they will soon thank u when they r all better.

Your "child" but you keep using the plural "they". Make up your mind.
