I was on the liver transplant waiting list for 18 months before I received my surgery. Everything falls under the guidelines of UNOS whether you are rich or poor. That's the United Network for Organ Sharing. Everyone has to play by their rules. Everyone gets a MELD score which is based on the results of 3 blood tests (creatnine, INR, and biliruben). The higher the score, the closer you are placed to the top. Now there are other factors that can also give you some added points which is cancer. But if you have too much cancer, they will not give you a transplant. I'm not saying that some well paid for doctor couldn't work this system somehow for a particular individual, but I hope that didn't happen. I have seen some people wait years on their transplants because their scores remain low and they are just not sick enough. I have also seen someone get a transplant within a few days of being listed because they are near death and very sick. But it does seem suspicious that the famous and wealthy do only have to usually wait a very short time in case after case. I cannot remember any celebrity or rich person having to wait for years or even 18 months like I had to wait. It seems that something might be happening to go in their favor, but I have not seen any proof.

I heard he was Buddhist, but I'm not sure. He may have been Christian.
