Writers, what milestone have you celebrated, lately?

Writing is about the big goals as much as it is about the little ones. What goal, big or little, have you hit recently that you're celebrating?

Did you write a certain number of days in a row?

Did you pass 20,000 or 30,000 or some other milestone with word count?

Have you recently overcome writer's block?

Are you finished with a draft?

I am celebrating because I am officially able to say that I've written a book. I finished the first draft early this morning at 18 words away from 100,000 words, and feel like I'm on the top of the world! Or maybe that's just the sleep deprivation talking?

So what are you celebrating? What is your next milestone you're working towards?

I finished the second draft (macrorevision edit) of my first novel late last month! :) Next milestone is finishing the edit for my second book. At this time I'm not even thinking about the next edit for the series, because it's probably going to be the last one before I start looking for agents (which still kind of terrifies me, lol - I want my books published, but the process scares me a little. I'll get used to it someday though). I'm concentrating on finishing the second book's edit so my critique team can read it, then I'll probably get some other ideas going for a while before I return to the books.

Congratulations to you! There's nothing quite like finishing your first book. I remember it well. It was the evening of May 31st, 2010. I kept telling people, "I really hope nothing terrible happens to me before I finish writing this story. That would suck!" I finished both my novels at the cafe where I do most of my writing/studying. On May 31st, I was accompanied by a few friends who'd wanted to be there for moral support (yeah, I have the best friends ever). Unbeknownst to us, a truck had caught fire on the street next to the mall (very close to the cafe) - we could see the smoke from the windows, but we didn't know what it was. I finished my novel just before 10pm and we went home. The next day, we found out that the truck had caught fire directly over a natural gas pipeline. Had the truck exploded, the entire immediate area (including our cafe) would have been wiped out. I could have died on the evening I was going to finish my novel! I guess all that hoping and praying paid off in the end, haha!

I wish you the best with editing, and your future projects. Almost everything they say about editing is true, it's much more frustrating than writing the book! But the end result is SO worth it. :) Good luck to you and to everyone!

Well I just recently decided my first draft needed a rewrite. So from the beginning I've added on a little so far. Today I got 8k. It's a tiny milestone but with the new combined with the old it bumps up my entire story to 80k which I find to be rather exciting.

My next milestone for the rewrite will probably be 20k. I would be pleased if my finished product at the end was around 100k.

It is the five year anniversary of me signing the contract to publish my first book with Kensington. January will be the five year mark that the book has been on shelves. January 2013 will be five years my second novel has been on shelves.

In the more immediate milestone arena I have begun to work on some of my short stories (I have about 7 at the halfway mark), and I am doing edits on 1 manuscript while completing another. I had sort of been on hiatus. I couldn't seem to get into writing like I used to. It still isn't the same energy and flow I had before but it is a sedate pace that I can enjoy.

And another milestone is my nephew showed me the start to his first manuscript. I feel incredible that we can discuss writing like equals. Now he knows how it feels to agonize over 100 words, a name, the clothing, a particular setting even the time of day, your character goes to bed. IT IS GREAT.

I don't think I've ever written anything longer than about 5 pages. I think about writing more than I actually write (but it does help when I actually start to do things).

I just finished my first flash fiction piece. I've never even thought about writing a story in a page and mine is about 580 words. It's more worrisome than I'd thought it be.

Seriously though, congratulations! I hope in the next few months, my big milestone will be a screenplay or actually completing NaNoWriMo this time around.

Serious congrats! I can't wait till I can finally say that I've done this. (there have been a lot of thirty page starts along this journey lol). My recent milestone has been writing nonstop for four months now (definitely the longest I've gone. must have found my groove lol) and getting over 100 pages (which is also great since I usually get bored with my stories but not yet!) Good Luck with your story!

I recently got my inspiration back, I've over come writers block and am about to hit 15,000 words on my first serious book.

I feel like all is right in the world again.

Good luck with your book and good luck to all those writers out there that are reaching for the stars :) Life is good!

Well, I'm the early process stage lol. I think after a few months of thinking I've finally got a good plot going. And a milestone that I'm really pleased about: I've got my main characters name! Soooooo happy! I've been going crazy, but I've finally decided on "Mia". Fits her perfectly. But unfortunately I don't have her love interests name yet. Hunter and Chase are the big ones so far, but I'm still planning.

Well, I'm celebrating getting back into writing. I've been bombarded with homework the past few days, and I haven't recieved a single change to jot down this idea that I have in my head, until now. :)

My next goal is to get 20,000 words. I shall be working on it this weekend! :D

Recently passed the 40k mark on my recent-second-draft of one novel. The first draft was 90k, so I'm nearly halfway there (if it remains the same length with the massive plot overhaul).

And, not really a 'milestone', but I came up with another idea that I absolutely love. I'm at 7k on that one... not really a milestone stage, but eh, two chapters. :D

I wrote about 3 sentences. I'm thinking the entire book will be about 150,000 words.
