Mini Vacation. Genting Highlands or Malacca?

I want to take a mini 2 night vacation with family. Cheap is good, but entertaining as well.

Can't decide between Malacca or Genting Highlands.

Melaka (as we know it) is cool, historic, foodie paradise and what not and I haven't been there in eons, but there doesn't seem to be much to do other than join a tour group and visit old churches. I don't mind historical tours, but I'm visiting Malaysia after 3 years for only 2 weeks, so I kinda want to make it worth while.

Genting is cool as well, arcade, theme park, but I can see it getting pricy and heavy on the wallet. hotel rooms are a concern as well, heard first world is cheaper but I dont remember the locations and distance from other attractions.

Any form of help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I personally think there's more to do in Malacca. If you've lived abroad or have been to themeparks in Singapore, US, Europe or Australia...it seems pointless to go to the Genting Highlands.

At least in Malacca there's the culture, history, food and a (mediocre) river and beach. Lots of activities and photo opportunities.

For the family I think Malacca is better. There is the historic village where the kids can spend their ringgits on souvenirs. They can do face painting etc. See things being made Have rickshaw rides. Plus the facilities mentioned in the post above, such as the beach.

There are wonderful hotels where you can have full afternoon teas that really negate dinner and certainly fill kids up. There are also middle of the range hotels that are not expensive by western standards. Newspapers often have great deals for weekends.

Genting Highlands would be a great getaway for you and the wife. But theme parks are pricey and kids can get insistant which means stress for parents.

Have fun! I wish I were there again!

you can go to both places.... one day is enough for each ....spend a night in malacca, day trip to genting. 2 nights in genting is too much unless u r into gambling or just laze around.
