do i have to pay the flat rate fee of a USPS large envelope i ordered?

do i have to pay the flat rate fee?

or can i just go online and pay for the prepaid laber online, but for a cheaper price?

like, imagine i have my own envelope/package thing & i order the shipping + delivery confirmation = $1.75.

but i have the USPS large envelope that charges a flat rate fee. do i have to pay that $5 flat fee or can i pay the minimum $1.75 i would pay for my own packaging?

If you use the USPS envelope, you have to pay the $5 flat rate. If you don't want to do that, go to Wal-Mart and buy a different envelope. Buying the envelope and shipping it will probably cost more than the USPS flat rate,

Flat rate Priorty packaging REQUIRES that you pay the flat rate to mail the item.

If you want cheaper rates, you need to either use non-flat rate packaging (still paying priority rates, which are usually higher than the flat rates, imho) or buy your own envelopes.

If you try to pay less, your recipient will be forced to pay the difference. That will foster a lot of resentment.
