Have you ever been called Joe by a Filipino local?

My dad's a kiwi, so being a whitey, attention seems to follow him whenever we go to my mum's hometown of Roxas. So anyway, "Joe" seems to be a favorable name given to him by a lot of locals, whether it was because he's just a foreigner, and they don't see many foreigners, or maybe because they believed his name was Joe, which i highly doubt lol.

I was just wondering if this is commonplace throughout regional areas of the Philippines? As it has never occurs to him in Manila.

Oh and have you ever been called Joe?

It is common everywhere in the Philippines. One expat (Ted Lerner) even wrote a book called "Hey, Joe". It's a remnant from World War II (Joe is short for GI Joe). Usually only white guys get called "Hey, Joe".
