03 1.9dci opel vivaro power steering issue ..... PLEASE HELP?
the power steering was very heavy on the above van and it was leaking fluid so i replaced the pump and the problem remained so i then changed the rack also and thought that would definitely sort it as i drained the system of fluid and filled it with fresh atf and bled the system but when i started the engine the steering remained heavy and will only operate as it should when the revs are brought over about 2000rpm
the steering worked o.k immediately after i changed the pump but only for a minute or two , when i tried to move the van out of the workshop and placed it on full lock the belt squealed like **** and i lost assistance and haven't been able to get it back , i have a customer waiting and would appreciate any assistance from opel/nissan/renault specialists or indeed anyone that may be able to shed some light

Correct bleeding sp for these beasts is ENGINE OFF! slowly turn wheel to full lock, then opposite lock, leave it ten mins, check level and repeat, that's Renault's way.
Vaux/opel is the same, engine off turn to full lock,SLOWLY!then opposite lock, slowly.
Then engine running,repeat the procedure.
Don't know why but these seem to air lock so I usually stick with the vaux/opel procedure, and the wait time between engine off to bleeding with the engine running seems important.about the time to make a brew seems to work.
If all this fails then one or more idlers/pullys are shot and the belts glazed overand slipping.
Hope that helps.

Common Punto problem, but there is a quick fix which works - if you take the lower plastic off the steering column, you can remove and clean the EPS connector which could solve the problem (year and counting on my friends one). However, they sold it to you as working, and it's a known fault, so if it were me I would take a photo of the dash next time it happens, then go back and demand they change the steering column which is what they know it needs, but are trying to avoid. If they refuse to then demand your money back and go buy something other than a Punto, because the law (consumer rights act) is on your side. Incidentally, a recon unit with 24 months warranty should only cost you £160 and are fairly simple to change - obviously I looked into this!

Well what he said really, but some of those models have a centrifugal pulley, so you get less power to the rack at higher speed.
This and or the belt needs looking at
