What is a good private plane that is not too expensive to fly from LA to range of Hilo HI? Cessna 310 maybe?

I want to rent a plane for this! Ideas? How expensive? I've got the ratings and this is in initial planning stage! Thx

A 310 doesn't have the range to get you half way there. You would need it to be full of auxiliary tanks and survival gear. Get a jet.

Hope this was not you! The link is a story about a Cessna 310 that ran out of fuel 500 miles short of Hawaii

For your information, you fly a C-310 from Santa Barbara to Hilo, and about mid point, one of the two engine fails - you cannot make it to destination, nor come back - get ready for a swim -

You seem to know very little about lightplane engine-out performance and range -

Have you ever heard about the wording "wet footprint" for overwater operations...?

Even some small jets have that problem - Such as a Lear 36...

There is a 30 minutes segment during flight where you could not make it -

Yeah, you need a Beechcraft Super King Air 350 with internal tanks to make that trip. Not even a mid-size Citation jet can make it that far without internal tanks. It's about 2100 miles from LAX to Hilo.

Try in in MS Flight Simulator first and let us know how far you get.

you'd probably want a citation X or something cause there's not much else that could make a 3k trip w/out either needing in flight refueling or extra fuel tanks
