my best friend has herpes. i stayed at her house for a few days recently and i noticed i have two small bumps on my right vaginal lip. they are about 8-10 mm and are swollen to the touch. the only account i can think of it when i used her razor to shave my underarms. is there anyway she can spread the virus to me?

Herpes can only live outside the body for a short time and the conditions have to be just right. She would have had to use her razor on her genital area most likely while sores are present and you would have had to use it right after her in the same area for you to contract herpes. When someone gets an outbreak, the sores first appear as blisters that open and form an ulcer. There are usually many during the first outbreak. They don't appear as "small bumps" like you described. It's possible that you could just have a clogged pore or ingrown hair. If it feels and looks like a pimple, then it's probably nothing more than that. This is especially common if you shave that area. Let this be a warning to never use anyone else's personal items. This includes makeup (especially eye makeup) and toothbrushes. (Gross...I know, but I'm serious!)

It is very rare to contract herpes outside of sexual contact, and there's no way you could have from the razor unless you used it on your genitals immediately after she used it on her genitals (and even then, I really don't know that herpes would actually spread to the second person). Using it on your underarms, though, would not give you genital herpes.

Also, the first outbreak of genital herpes tends to be very painful. If these bumps on your genitals are not painful and go away soon, I wouldn't worry about them. If they stay or cause any other problems, though, I would definitely talk to a doctor!

Herpes can only live out side of the body for a few seconds. You're very unlikely to get herpes from sharing an object, You would have to use it directly with in seconds after she used on an area that had a break out. If it's genital herpes she isn't likely to spread it to you with out having oral sex or intercourse. But you can get the oral type of herpes on your mouth with out ever having sex. Oral herpes causes cold sores on the mouth and it's often passed during child hood by being innocently kissed by some one that has a cold sore. You're unlikely to get genital herpes with out having some kind of sexual activity. Your bumps could be caused by a number of things like in grown hairs or cysts. If you're worried about it see a doctor and have them check the bumps out for herpes.

You should NOT ever use someone else's razor or tooth brush. That is a perfect environment to contract any number of dangerous diseases including HIV and Hep C. You definitely need to see a doctor to rule out this possibility. Big mistake.
