What percent of the world is actually worth something?

People that if you shot them, it would make a difference. Like Newton or Darwin. And I'm talking about a real difference, obviously when you kill a person their family is going to be sad but they're not really significant for anyone else.

Any one thing or action is significant, as it can have a small impact on other actions or events, which can then in turn affect others. For instance, in your example, killing a random person, might cause the family to grieve, which could adversely affect a child in the family. The child may need counseling, which could contribute to a ground breaking psychological study. This may seem unlikely, but any action can have any unforeseeable consequence and therefore significance.

To answer your question, you would have to go into specifics as to what you mean by "worth". If you mean "worth" as in only the geniuses of each century, then the percentage you speak of may be less than .001%. However, if you consider the influences of Newton or Darwin, the world may suddenly seem 100% indirectly significant in some way or another.
