Seriously what happen to the Heavy Metal part of R&P?

I've only been a regular here since the end of last year, but I know that just several months ago, it seemed like I was answering 10 or so questions a day about Metal music. More people on here seemed to really love it, and I picked up more than a few contacts that felt the same way. But something happen, all the sudden R&P was taken over by users who either hated it, or were to hip for it. A lot of regulars left at the same time, and it was like a new era of R&P. I have nothing against other types of music and I enjoy all types, but Metal has always, and probably will always be my favorite type. I still have contacts that love Metal music, but I feel like it's talked about a whole lot less.

MQ- Am I imagining this?

MQ2- Do you like any Metal?

MQ3- If not, what is your opinion of people that do?

BQ- True or false, there is no one "best," genre of music

BQ2- If true, what is better about the genre you choose, can you explain?

BQ3- Where's the logic in, "If I like it better, then it actually is better and everyone else is wrong?"

Update:

Not trying to cause any friction or controversy, I just got hit by nostalgia earlier and thought of this question.

Update 2:

*If false* on BQ2, my mistake

I know I would participate a lot more if I didn't get thumbs downed to the bottom of the page for every question I answer. Yeah, it is getting old. And I'm about to clear the air.

    MA: nope

MA2: I like most Metal. Thrash, Post, Death, Power, Classic, Prog. One band I've been listening alot to lately is Yyrkoon.

    MA3:

    BA: true

BA2: no reason other than it's what appeals to me the most.

    BA3: Can't find any there.

What I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot of trolling going on where metalheads were getting their questions and answers deleted for a while.

King Diamond in particular seemed to take it personally and just stopped posting questions like he used to do. Another favorite user of mine was Speak English or Die but I think he might have just got bored and moved on like KP did.

After a while I just started seeing a lot of metalheads mentioning they were bored and then little by little they stopped posting.

mq: no what you saw is what went down

mq2: yes, very much, along with many other generes of music

mq3: I think people that do like it should post more questions about it and answer questions about it

bq: each person has their own preference

bq2: I go through phases with my intrests in music but I've always loved hard rock music and a couple years ago started getting into metal. There is no real reason for why I love rock & metal other than it's what I prefer the most

bq3: there is no logic if someone is trying to speak for others or a group of people

YQ: You are not imagining this at all. I used to have a different account as a regular in this section under a different name, I was TC and answered constant questions along with other users like Peaches, Tron, Darth, Lepersy, and many others that I never see here anymore. (sometimes i notice Tron on) Then I left for a few months and came back, now I just am using this account as both my LGBT and R&P accounts, I don't know why I kept them seperate in the first place. I suppose multiple TC badged accounts made me happy >.<

YQ2: Good God yes I do.

    YQ3: I love them. I mean, us.

BQ: True. My personal taste ranks many Metal sub-genres up very high, but I can't choose my favorite.

For example, I can't pick if my favorite is Thrash Metal, Doom Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, or Power Metal. This is also encompassing the various psuedo-sub-genres such as Blackened Thrash, or Melodeath. No way can I choose.

I can, however; say that Metal > other genres.

    BQ2: Because it's ************* Metal.

BQ3: There is none, unless you are Dr. Gordon Freeman, which I just so happen to be.

  • MQ: No I don't think you are, a lot questions I see about Metal on here are geared toward Metalcore or what people think is Metal ie Screamo or Nu Metal. However their are still question focused on Real Metal posted.

MQ2: Yes, it's my Favorite Genre of Music

BQ: True, any "best" genre is based on a person's opinion, you can not prove factually one genre of music is better than another.

BQ2: Metal has always spoken to me. I like Heavy Music and I love the massive diversity within the genre of Metal.

BQ3: Their is none, it's all based on opinion. Opinions do not equal Logic

I know that summer about killed my activity here because I was really busy. Nowadays, I'm back at college and I get busy hanging out with friends, but I'm trying to at least sign on most day. But, I've noticed more "what are bands like..." type questions on here now than anything else, and those can get boring to answer after awhile. Typically, I do an advanced search for "metal" questions that are open, and I check my contacts' stuff, but if that yields nothing, I don't have time to just sit and browse through pages upon pages of questions.

MQ2 - Oh yeah. Listening to Benighted as we speak.

    BQ - True

MQ- You are definitely imagining this. Metal is talked about much more than you think it is, just look for questions. I actually just posted one asking about some metal bands I would like (check it out actually, I need recommendations), and it got a bit of attention.

MQ2- I do like metal. I like traditional heavy metal (not too old-fashioned though; I absolutely HATE bands like AC/DC), nu metal, melodic death metal, alternative metal, progressive/experimental metal, thrash/speed metal, groove metal, metalcore, and a little bit of industrial metal. I'm fine with elements of other kinds of metal, but those are the genres I like best. However, I do NOT like regular death metal, black metal, or most power metal.

    MQ3- Can't answer, since I like metal.

BQ- That is definitely false. One guy could love metal, the next guy could find Justin Bieber to be amazing (but I don't think that is very likely, and I'm a GENEROUS critic). It's all a matter of opinion. Music is music. When people say '*insert genre here* is not music', that just means they dislike it.

BQ2- I like the fact metal can be angry, melodic, musical, rhythmic, and great, sometimes all in the same song. Many people think that metal is a bunch of noise, but when you find a good band, you're hooked. I like it much better than commercial pop/rap/rock; even some of the mainstream metal bands are good.

BQ3- There IS no logic in that statement. You could think there is, but in reality, you're entitled to your opinion.

I think people stopped asking questions about metal albums/bands because they don't get much of a response here in R&P anymore, as you said. The most answers a question gets are the ones that mention like Bieber or Gaga..

    MQ: No, you're right

MQ2: Some, not really my thing though. I'm open to suggestions though :)

MQ3: Don't have an opinion, it's just what they like

@TH3SPUS, I feel like I saw him a week or two ago, you sure he left for good? I just think he comes on every once in a while.

I left the site around May because of my exams. When I left, this place was bustling with metalhead regs. When I came back around July, almost no one was there any more. I'm not sure what happened. I asked a few metal questions but mostly heard crickets. So I just stopped asking them. I still answer any metal questions I find interesting though.

I'm all for asking questions about our beloved genre as long as people are actually willing to answer. It's disappointing to put effort in your question and have pretty much no one bother to respond.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I find that whatever I like and bring to the table musically is either the opposite of what others like, or its "been there, done that". I have never felt that this was a "Metal-Only" section, but I know that there was a day when I couldn't even answer in here because it seemed like I had too much knowledge about music just to rate "flavor-of-the-week" albums. Even if its no longer as Metal-oriented as it once was, I think its at its peak where theres REAL, DIE-HARD fans here of all types of music here now. I remember when people struggled to name 10 songs of every band asked about. Now its no sweat and you get lots of answers.

    MQ-I don't think so

    MQ2-Yes, its my favourite music

    MQ3----

    BQ-True

BQ2-I just like powerful lyrics and sounds

BQ3-I'm the opposite of that thinking. I'm not a hipster or a supremist, but I prefer when I'm a minority in my music tastes because I feel more "special" or "unique".

Freshers whining about how R&P is no longer the perfect little place it was some time ago is certainly a personal pet peeve of mine, never fails to irritate me. If people were here solely to discover new music, share their own suggestions and make this experience as impersonal as they can then they wouldn't be going around strolling down memory lane in every goddamn question that pops up reminding them how this place has taken a turn for the worse.

To answer your question Jon, I am a fan of Heavy Metal and I will try to contribute to reviving the Heavy Metal scene in this section as soon as I find the time.

MQ: You see, I have a very eclectic taste in music so I've learned to respect musicians of all genres and fans of all genres. Now those who aren't as open-minded will find it very difficult to refrain from dissing whatever music they dislike and this applies to all fans of music, those who only listen to Metal will diss "bubble-gum pop" and vice versa.

    MQ2: Yes, I do.

To answer your bonus questions; Ever hear of personal preference? I try to stay as impartial as I can, but I'm only human. If you were in any way religious you'd understand where this concept comes from.

I started using this site maybe 3 months ago, and I've seen a lot of people say metalheads used to "run this section". I can't say I know what happened.... sorry!

    MQ: Nope

    MQ2: Some

MQ3: Music tastes are biased, why should I care what people like and don't like?

BQ: True, all genres have their "ups-and-downs"

BQ2: I think you meant to put: "If false, what...."

    BQ3: I don't know...
