Low water pressure, pulsing water?

Low water pressure, pulsing water?

I woke up this morning with extremely low water pressure (both hot and cold) and it will pulse lower pressure every few seconds. I am on city water. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Also, not sure if this is relevant or not, but we've had a very slow drain on bath tub. Yesterday my husband "snaked it" with a coat hanger and plunged it, now it is draining fine. I didn't think incoming water and sewage water were related, but the timing is odd.

Thanks for your help.

Update:

Our home is older built in the 60's.

Update 2:

How much does this cost to fix?

Update 3:

I found out that there was a leak in the service line in front of my house. it could not be repaired since it was made of galvanized steel, so it needed to be replaced completely. First plumber quoted $3200 2nd plumber quoted $2600.

I would guess your problem is in the pressure regulator. When they start to go, sometimes there's a pulsing action as the diaphragm and spring work together, then against each other in conjunction with the moving column of water.

You were right about the drain - it's completely unrelated, just a coincidence.

Low water pressure can be caused by dirty faucet aerators or clogged pipes..
