my old dog is going to die on friday:(?

on friday they are going to take my old dog to the vet to die,

we gave away this dog to a friend 3 years ago because of work and

we didn't want to leave him alone at home, so I haven't seen him for a long time,

but I am very sorry now because I loved him very much,

the old owner asked me if I wanted to go see him one last time,

I don't know what to do, if I go I know I will cry like a baby,

and I know he will understand something is up,

if I don't go, maybe I will regret it later?

what should I do?

Your dog will need you when he goes. Just stay as strong as you can for him and pet him while he gets the shot. You will regret it forever, not going with him. He loves you and the only sight he wants to see in his last moment is your face. Trust me, it is hard. I've been through it. But you must understand that I, today, am so glad that I went. If I hadn't gone, I'd be regretting it to this day. I kissed him goodnight and scratched his ear, and the last feeling he felt was my warm hand on his favorite spot. It was so worth it to me. Please go, be with him in his last minute. He loves you and he would want you there.

    Good luck my friend.

If it were me I would have to go. Try to be strong for the dog as you are right if you are upset he will sense that. But I am afraid if you do not go you will regret it. The best thing you can do is go see him pet him and talk to him about what is going to happen. Tell him you love him and will see him again and he will always be in your heart. Animals know when they are loved and he will sense you are sad and to be honest probably senses that it is his time. This is the most humane thing to do not letting him suffer. That is as much of our job as giving them a good home. I go in with my dogs when they give them the shot it is not bad at all they just go to sleep. Feel no pain. The hearing is the last to go so talk to him until it is over. Then know that he is out of pain and maybe go on line and read the rainbow bridge it will make you feel better. That is if you believe in it. Make a scrapbook of your dog or keep up a picture that was one of your favorites. I also cut a lock of hair at the time they die so I have it. Most vets will also make you a foot print. Good luck and I am so sorry about your dog. But he was loved it sounds by many and he will always know that and so will you.

You haven't seen him for a long time, so as far as the dog is concerned, you're no longer part of his life. Having you there crying isn't going to do *him* any good, is it? Also, your last memory of him would be of a very sick old dog.

I suggest you keep your last memory of him as he was in better days, and don't upset the poor old boy by bawling all over him. The person he most wants comfort from now is his owner.

Thank the owner for his thoughtfulness, and ask him to give the dog an extra hug on your behalf.

I understand your pain. I had to make the same decision and I figured my reasons for not going to be with him are selfish because its just because I will be sad. If you go just act happy to see him and dont show you are upset. I think you will regret it if you dont and although it will be hard at the time you can take comfort in the fact that you had the chance say good bye. Be brave, hold back the tears there is plenty of time for that once he's gone. Google the poem the rainbow bridge.....its beautiful and might help you through it xxx

You are facing an extremely difficult thing in your life. I've had to face this several times and it hurt so bad. I took comfort in the fact that I had loved and cared for my dogs, treating as true family members and that they had a wonderful life. When I took them to the vet I stayed with them, holding them until it was over so they felt love as they passed. I took them home and gave them a funeral in my yard. I have never forgotten one of them. My advice is to embrace this situation. Feel it. Cry and mourn for your beloved pet. It's the last thing you can do for this precious loved one. God Bless you and your sweet dog.

if you think your going to regret it just go.

its very sad actually being there, but comforting to know that your dog had a good life, and now if it is old and sick, he can now go peacefully with dignity to rest.

i cried like a baby, theres nothing wrong with that.

im so sorry to hear this and i hope you are ok
