Can you explain what is Scientific Notation?

I need a very clear answer as if you were explaining it to a 5th grader. I need it as neat and broad as possible. Thanks for your answer!

    I will give you an example: 0.005 is Standard notation. In Scientific notation it is 5.0 x 10^-3. All you have to do is move the decimal point from standard notation to the right until it is right next to (to the right of) the next digit other than zero. For this example you move the decimal three times until you get to 5.0. Now you multiply it by 10 to the power of how many times you moved the decimal (3 in thid case). Hope this helps.

    numbers are expressed as multiples of 10^k

    5 = 5 x 10^0

    50 = 5 x 10^1

    75 = 7.5 x 10^1

    750 = 7.5 x 10^2
