Atheism or evolutionism?

As an evolutionist, you must agree that your main goal is to survive and reproduce. But in human society, conformity is what helps you survive and reproduce. Is it worth it to you to be "out" as an atheist, if it means you're less likley to survive & reproduce as a result?

    1) An "evolutionist" is someone that believes evolution is true. It is not a belief system and it does not prescribe goals (it describes them). The will to survive is inherent, but not everyone chooses to reproduce. The choice to reproduce is more of a luxury for human beings now, a person can easily choose not to and be unaffected.

    2) Conformity doesn't apply here. Atheists don't become atheists because they rebel or refuse to conform, they become atheists for a variety of other reasons. Sure, there are probably some angry teens that pretend to call themselves atheists for a few years, but it would be generalizing and stereotyping that apply that to the broader population of legitimate atheists.

    3) The witch trials are over, and nobody (in normal society) is looking to purge atheists from society. You more than likely unknowingly work with them, you go to (or went to) school with them, you may even go to church with them. Survival as an Atheist is the same as Survival for Theists, both exist within society.

    4) Social networking exists now. The likelihood of a person being incapable of reproducing because they've become an outcast is incredibly low. It's too easy to find people, too easy to meet people, and too easy to connect to people now.

tldr: Atheism doesn't effect your ability to "survive" or "reproduce" at all. Evolution doesn't teach values, it describes traits.

Last time I checked, they haven't passed a law to kill atheists in my country yet... so being an atheist has no effect on my ability to survive and reproduce...

And, btw... it's not an argument between atheism and evolution... there are MANY mainstream religions that accept evolution, and the rest of science for that matter.... Getting tired of the misconception that every person on the planet that accepts evolution must automatically be an atheist...

Evolution is the change in species over time. What a few people choose in 9one generation to do, or not do, is neither here nor there.

And, while atheists are a minority, we are a sufficiently large minority that it is not hard for one atheist to meet and reproduce with another. Should both choose to. The same as two theists might or might not choose to.

This question makes no sense: First off no one is an evolutionist, its a silly made up term, and second off its not very hard for young atheists to find people to marry and reproduce with. I think you're overestimating the stock many people put into their partner's religion anymore.

    >in human society, conformity is what helps you survive or reproduce.

False premise. What helps us to survive is to work in our economic structure to feed and water ourselves.

The goal isn't to just become one ideal entity that all share the same thoughts, I dont think collectivism is human nature.

Yeah sure whatever. I had no problem surviving and reproducing up til now, so what are you trying to say?

Doing something just because its popular is not something I want my kids to adopt. That is a shallow way to go through life. What about being true to yourself ? Is that not important? At one time everyone thought the Earth was flat and anyone that dared argue otherwise was murdered.

Sometimes you have to be subversive to bring about change.

I can survive on my own. Creating offspring isn't a goal of mine. Sex doesn't require too much conformity, just alcohol and easy women.

Evolution is a scientific theory, not a religion. The sooner you understand this, the better for everyone.
