Drugstore hair color, can I make it semi-permanent?

Hi. I've had my grey covered for the past five years or so at a salon with semi-permanent color. I've never done my own color at home. But my finances are changing and I'm thinking of trying to learn how to do it myself. Yikes. Is there a way to turn dye that I'd buy in the drugstore into semi-permanent so I don't kill my hair dying it every three weeks or so? Or is there any way to buy semi-permanent retail? Is this just a bad idea all around? Thanks.

You can buy semi-permanent dyes in the store.

And honestly it isnt hard to dye your own hair, just make sure you brush it through and itl be fine.

You cannot turn a permanent dye into a semi-permanent one.

But permi ones are not much more damaging, and in the long run would be better for your hair as you would only need to top up your roots rather than having to redye the entire thing
