  • English Ivy question?

Ok, you guys were so helpful with my what's-eating-my-sedum question -- most did not think it is rabbits as I was guessing -- that I'd like to hit you up about what the heck is eating my English ivy? The bites are not higher than 7, 8 inches from the ground (ivy goes about three feet up a fence and tree), look smaller than deer bites, but too large for insects. I am not (yet) familiar with what a slug/snail-sized bite looks like. I guessed rabbits for the ivy too, but would like opinions. Much appreciated.

  • Are rabbits eating my sedum?

Hi. Something's eating my sedum, particularly my red leaf sedum. Does not look like the work of bugs, and bites seem too small for deer. Could it be rabbits? And can you recommend a repellant that's not too toxic? Thank you.

  • Persian blue allium?

Hello. Trying to figure out if Persian blue allium is closer to blue than to purple. I know the full name is Allium aflatunense 'Purple Sensation,' so I am confused. Most of the photos definitely lean toward blue, but some look quite purple. Thanks for any help.

  • Yahoo Mail threading "conversations" incorrectly?

I will resist listing all of my (profound) complaints about the new Yahoo Mail format, and limit myself to just one.

Sometimes completely separate so-called "conversations" get threaded together. Not that the separate recipients are seeing each other messages or both threads of mine, but for me they are grouped together for inexplicable reasons. Usually this straightens itself out quickly. But it's happening to me right now and refreshing is not working as it did in other instances.

These are NOT forwarded emails; those seem to be always threaded with the original message -- YUCK. Nor have I used the same subject; another thing the system apparently cannot handle. Nor is the content very similar, which has been ANOTHER freakin' problem with this thoroughly awful "upgrade."

No, they are simply two separate threads that have been mashed together. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know how to fix it? Thanks.

  • Annoyed at "fake" thumbs down?

I get really annoyed when people give a thumbs down to a question just for the heck of it, not because they actually think it's a poor answer. Does this bother you?

  • Workaround for geting Yahoo Classic Mail back?

Hi. I am really distraught with the new Yahoo Mail. For a past few weeks, I've been using the trick of switching the word "launch" for "search" in the URL. But five days ago, that stopped working and I can only get the new and terrible Yahoo Mail. Has anyone found a new workaround? Boy, I really hope so...Thanks.

  • Best online photo printers?

Hi. Do any of you have an opinion about which of the online inexpensive photo printers are the best? Shutterfly, Snapfish, etc.? I can't remember who I've used before, but it's almost always disappointing; they up the contrast too much, take any subtly out of the image, in my experience. Thanks.

  • Law & Order episode based on what real life case?

Hi. Season 2, episode 2, "The Wages of Love," was based on a famous real life case of a woman murdering her soon-to-be exhusband and his younger girlfriend in their bed. What was that real life case? What was the name of the killer? Thanks.

  • Drugstore hair color, can I make it semi-permanent?

Hi. I've had my grey covered for the past five years or so at a salon with semi-permanent color. I've never done my own color at home. But my finances are changing and I'm thinking of trying to learn how to do it myself. Yikes. Is there a way to turn dye that I'd buy in the drugstore into semi-permanent so I don't kill my hair dying it every three weeks or so? Or is there any way to buy semi-permanent retail? Is this just a bad idea all around? Thanks.

  • What creature did this?

I'm re-asking this question more clearly: I have a small but noticeable and very neat pile of what seems to be wall board dust under my base board in my kitchen. It's about a quarter inch high, and over and inch wide. (Old house, uneven floors; that's why there's space under the baseboard.)

I've seen a couple of roaches and mice this summer, but never seen them do this. What the heck could it be living in my wall? It's as neat as an ant hill. Thanks.

  • What could be white powdery substance under baseboard?

It's not mold; it's a little pile of white powder maybe 1/4 inch tall. (Old house; floor very uneven; that's why there's a space under baseboard.) Have seen a couple of roaches and mice this summer, but never saw them make (leave???) a pile of white powder before. Yikes, what could it be? Oh, I live in the city, Brooklyn, NY, top floor of a brownstone. Thanks.

  • My sweaters are pilling?

Hi. I have a bunch of thin cashmere sweaters from Macy's. They all started pilling immediately. Does anyone know what causes pilling? (My thin cashmere sweater from J. Crew, which I've worn 100 times has not one pill on it.) And what can I do about it? How can I get rid of pills short of picking each one off? I tried a razor blade, a disposable razor, but that just ripped the sweater. Thanks.

  • Crown of Thorns plant -- winter?

Hi. Last winter, my Crown of Thorn plant lost many leaves. It got so scraggly, I cut it way back in the beginning of the season this past spring. Now it's a nice leafed out tiny bush. How can I keep more of its leaves this winter? It is in a good southern exposure window.

Oh, this just occurred to me -- would it prefer the window with the radiator under it? Same exposure. Radiator's rarely on, however, as I'm on the top floor of a townhouse and we get the heat last up here. Anyway, asking if the problem could be more temperature, or light, or both?

Thanks for any suggestions. (A few weeks ago, I asked on here about a grow lamp for it, but

people said no. Were they correct?)

  • Grow light for Crown of Thorns?

Hi. I have a Crown of Thorns plant that I love to death. Last winter it lost a ton of leaves and I ended up having to cut it way back for it to leaf out again over the summer. Now it's a bushy little bush. I want it to keep it's leaves this winter.

Should I use a grow light? I've never used one and have no idea how. Do you leave them on all night? Crown of Thorns must be a semi-arid plant, I'm guessing, so would it not be used to cold nights? That is, if I get a grow light, should I turn it off at night? Thanks.

  • Woolite Oxy Deep Carpet Cleaner OK for laundry?

Hi. I just bought Woolite Oxy Deep Spot & Stain Carpet Cleaner as a substitute for Oxi Clean Laundry Stain Remover, not noticing that it said "carpet cleaner" on it. Do you think I can still use it on laundry as I would the Oxi Clean? Thanks.
