What could be white powdery substance under baseboard?

It's not mold; it's a little pile of white powder maybe 1/4 inch tall. (Old house; floor very uneven; that's why there's a space under baseboard.) Have seen a couple of roaches and mice this summer, but never saw them make (leave???) a pile of white powder before. Yikes, what could it be? Oh, I live in the city, Brooklyn, NY, top floor of a brownstone. Thanks.

Update:

It's in a very neat pile, as though some creature made it.

Update 2:

Shoot. I should have made this more clear. Maybe I'll post again. But my real question is: what the heck creature is living in my wall that would do this with the wall board dust? (It's wall board; old house with plaster walls, but this wall is new.)

Update 3:

Lar, is the powder white? This is definitely something I'd call powder, but not sure I'd call it "fine" powder. It's slightly granular. I wish I could post a picture.

Update 4:

Apologize for all my add-ons here, but now sure everyone is getting everything I am describing: It's pile that is as neat as an ANT HILL and the powder is PURE WHITE.

Update 5:

(NOT sure everyone is getting everyhting....)

there are pests that attack wood called powder post beetles, name given is they leave behind a fine powder from the kick holes, which piles up in a little pile

EDIT: PPB frass (as well as any other insect boring into the wood) can be white depending on what the wood being attacked is, but the powder post beetle will be a fine powder

  • Most of the time its dirt? But with it being white, It might be a bug repellent of some type.

It could be sheet rock dust also being in and older home it might be lath and plaster walls and it maybe that flaking off. It would depend on how old the house is as to what i could be.

If there is sheetrock on the walls it could be dust from it. Sheetrock is made out of a white gyp that looks like powder.

i think of New Zealand because of the fact of their very undesirable results of attempt cricket. recently England has defeated New Zealand very badly additionally their overall performance in contrast to sturdy now. So, i think of New Zealand is the main below rated attempt cricket team in the international or i think of South Africa is the main effectual attempt cricket team in the international.
