What are some careers music majors can pursue?
I believe in doing what you enjoy as opposed to being practical, but my parents really want me to major in something 'useful' like marketing or business or psychology. So are there any careers in music theory or composition that I can research? I've also been looking into music industry and recording technology.
Thanks so much (:

music majors do not have doors open to the job market as would a person in the field of business or psychology as you've mentioned, but if you do pursue a doctorate in music, you can find jobs at your disposal, which range from teaching to composing. i really admire that you followed your dreams, and i hope you the best in your pursuit. There are SO many careers in the music industry. Though, I was in the same shoes as you. I wanted to major in music but needed a practical way to do so. So, I'm majoring in Music Management. Most schools require a minor or double major in music performance as part of your major anyway. Some good schools for this would be Berklee, Northeastern, USC, NYU or The Hartt School.

Most music majors teach music. Some play music for a living (like piano bars, etc.) Some tutor music. Some work in music stores selling guitars, violins, etc. Some learn to repair instruments.
Very, very, very, very, very, very few work in the entertainment industry regularly.
Of those that work in the entertainment industry, very, very, very, very, very few are rich.

And shifting up from there. yet once you prefer to get into eating place administration that would in all probability be a great commencing factor, yet you does no longer prefer to flow to college and have that be your end purpose, basically a commencing factor. it won't be an easy path, but if you're willing to make a go at it, teaching, working at a music store, be a studio or sessions player. if you really want to pursue this path, i recommend you stay single, if you eventually want to get married and have a family, I would listen to your parents though, this music thing should really just be a hobby.
