What could I get instead of Norton ?

Hello, I've had Norton Internet security since 2008, I now have to renew and wonder if there's anything cheaper which will work just as well..I've got Microsoft vista firewalls that came with the computer, but these had to be turned off to get the Norton to work...help appreciated.. thanks x

"Having firewall on your pc isn't the best way to go, especially when you want to remove malware/viruses" A firewall is a security feature between your computer and the WAN or internet. If you have malware/spyware on your computer behind the firewall and the spyware or antivirus software is also on your computer or 'behind the firewall, the security software should still be able to remove it... A firewall whether it be in software or hardware, it's pretty important.

"I've been using AVG on my laptop for quite a while now, and its been working pretty well. It does quick scans and removes viruses or malware quickly to the vault." How you setup your security software is up to you. you can have it do quick or thorough scans. It's up to you.

''Avg is best for identity protection. I paid around $70 bucks for 1 year, it also has other options in other prices as well.'' AVG is $39.99 a year ( http://www.avg.com/us-en/buy-antivirus ). Norton use to have only the AV software but now it seems you only have the choice of the bundled Norton 360 which included the Tuneup for $59.99. It may be cheaper since you already have Norton but I would not doubt that Symantec keeps you paying the $59.99 ( http://buy.norton.com/estore/mf/productDetails/lis... )

"Norton is pretty much good too, its just up to you. I don't really like Norton, because its always closing down my internet and blocking sites that I need to access'' You have the choice of what sites get blocked and what are allowed in Norton or AVG. Mostly your web browser handles site cookies but your security software will scan them for malicious data and other hackware coming from malicious web sites. AVG does a pretty good job of all this. AVG is sill having problems with the 64 bit version.

    Hi there,

Having firewall on your pc isn't the best way to go, especially when you want to remove malware/viruses. The cheapest antivirus would be McAfee, my step dad uses it, but I believe its pretty darn slow when it comes to scanning and such.. but its around $30.

I've been using AVG on my laptop for quite a while now, and its been working pretty well. It does quick scans and removes viruses or malware quickly to the vault. Avg is best for identity protection. I paid around $70 bucks for 1 year, it also has other options in other prices as well.

Norton is pretty much good too, its just up to you. I don't really like Norton, because its always closing down my internet and blocking sites that I need to access, or conflicts with my Word or Excel. Plus norton 360, its pretty expensive, but it has alot of benefits and protection.

    Hopes this help.

If you want free then I recommend Avast , superantispyware and Malwarebytes. coupled with Comodo firewall They are all free for personal use . It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.

You can try Avast!. It is free and does a decent job.

If you want a paid alternative that does most of its work on the background, and is really lightweight so it does not use up a lot of recources, I would sugges Nod32.

It is not expensive and works really well, hardly ever bothering you with popups or messages.

There's no Anti-Virus that will keep you safe. There's a process that "Hackers" "Programmers" go through in order to bypass the Anti-Virus it's call "Crypting" what "Crypting" does is it masks the program so it passes as uninfected. From experience the Anti-Virus that detects these "Crypted" files most is Avast. There's a high chance it will catch it. So i recommend Avast.

I had my computer wiped a month or so ago, and the people who cleaned up my laptop had installed Avats! security.

So far it's caught all the problems that I've encountered.
