Your birth certificate doesn't expire. It's not a licence that you have to renew.

Sounds like his mum has some issues. But your relationship is nothing to do with her, so if you want to get married, just go ahead! But just be sure that all other documents - ie passport, any visas he may have, etc - are valid.

If you're not sure, speak to a celebrant, or the local courthouse. They'll be able to tell you what needs to be done, and what identification is appropriate.

They are all right. Birth Certificates NEVER expire. They are a matter of public record that is there forever, unless the building burns down or something. :) However, passports and visas expire, perhaps his mom was just confused. There are dates on the Birth Certificate, such as date of birth, date of signing by attending physicians, but these dates do NOT expire. Trust us.

Your birth certificate never expires. Is it possible that another document has expired, such as a passport? Or is it possible that the mother is making excuses, perhaps there was no birth certificate? Perhaps she doesn't want the marriage to take place?

In my opinion, a birth certificate cannot expire. It is simply an acknowledgement of someone's birth, that can be used as a form of ID.

    No.

A birth certificate is a record of birth, they do not expire. It does not expire even after you do. Even a baby that is stillborn (born dead) has a birth certificate.

Forms of identification like drivers license, passport, green card and visa DO expire.

I think what she is saying is that she will kill him if he marries you. Which is wrong and hurtful but welcome to the real world you may as well get in line with all the other women who have a snotty @**ed overbearing budinsky mother in law to be. I sympathize with you and all the rest of us women so good luck and try to stay positive don't focus too much on her focus on your husband to be and the great future you will have together with or without her.
