Was the United States founded on Christianity?

To talk of immaterial existences is to talk of nothings. To say that the human soul, angels, god are immaterial, is to say they are nothings, or that there is no god, no angels, no soul. I cannot reason otherwise without plunging into the fathomless abyss of dreams and phantasms. I am satisfied and sufficiently occupied with the things which are, without tormenting or troubling myself about those which may indeed be, but of which I have no evidence.

-Thomas Jefferson

Lighthouses are more useful than churches

-Ben Franklin

This would be the best of all possible worlds if there was no religion in it.

-John Adams

What has been Christianity's fruits? Superstition, Bigotry and Persecution.

– James Madison

Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man.

- Thomas Jefferson

"the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"-Article 11, Treaty of Tripoli

this last document was signed by John Adams, and approved unanimously by the US Senate

Christianity immigrated here in the very beginning. I think once everyone got here and realized they weren't under that control anymore they were able to think for themselves and branch out into believing whatever they want. I love those quotes!

Nice quotes. Totally agree 100%. And people who do not agree with Separation of Church and State are idiots. Which is why we need more political leaders without misguided religious ideals. Not saying they shouldn't be religious but that they should not incorporate their religion into their running for office and we should not vote for someone solely based on their religion. Read a nice article about this in a magazine was quite informative. Revealed just how much voters base their votes solely on ones religious background and nothing else.

The US was founded on religious freedoms. The men and women of the states did not believe in the Anglican Church and wanted their own beliefs to be allowed. When it was started many early patriots were Puritans and Catholics looking for religious freedom. While predominately Christian some black males with freedom brought their own religion from Africa and some Native Americans who became citizens kept their cultural religion.

Contrary to what some Christians like to think, the founding fathers were indeed secularists and mostly non-religious.
