Am I Crazy? A friend of mine thinks i am insane and overprotective of my dog?
We were leaving my house and I knew we would be gone for a couple of hours! The weather in West Central Florida was starting to pick up which at the ned of summer usually always means thunder. So i turned on the T.V. for my dog cause we were in a rush and did not have time to find my portable radio to keep my dog calm in my absence. I read that experts say that it is a good thing to do if you love your pets. My friend on the other hand ragged on me all day for being insane and that all I was doing was running up my electric bill! I should mention that he has a dog in his house but he is not the dogs owner! So is it me or is he just a nag?

You are totally not crazy. You committed to owning a dog, and you are just doing your job which is making sure your dog's needs are fulfilled and your dog is happy. He is just a nag. Don't listen to what he says.

Okay, your 'friend' thinks that you are going to run up your electric bill like crazy just by leaving your TV on for your dog, do I have that right?! You're not crazy HE IS! It's not going to cost THAT much money to leave your TV on for your dog if you think that is what is going to help him not be lonely in your absence. You know your dog best and unless he is a shape shifter and can get inside your house and be there to watch your dog when you're not home then he needs the shut the hell up. And of course it's good if you love your pet because it would be stupid to have a pet that you hate, duh. Tell him to shut the f up and until he has owned a dog for longer than you and is in charge of your finances then he'd better cool it or else!

If an animal, such as a dog, is home alone for a few hours, it will most likely sleep or play. It will be lonely but will not be lonely forever because you were gone for awhile. What matters most to a dog is that you get home. They will forget that they were alone for a few hours. Having the T.V. or radio will most likely make it feel as if it has others home but will keep missing YOU. This is just a theory of what I think from experience and knowledge of dog behavior. Either way, your dog will always love you no matter what.

*IF* you know from *experience* that having the radio or TV on helps to keep your dog calm during a storm, then you did the right thing. However, many dogs aren't bothered by storms. Could yours be one of them? Certainly there is no harm in leaving a radio or TV on but it may or may not help at all. I think your friend just likes to rattle your cage. At least you cared enough to TRY something.

rigth did you think of the firehazard conected with such electronoic devises
here they group tv among the electronic equipment that always should be turned off when you leave the house or go too sleep
i couldnt care about the bill for keeping the dog calm, but i could care about the off fire hazard which is if it happen going too potentially kill my dog...and it do happen, i know of enough people who have lost their houses to fires caused by electric equipment left on and unatended

I do it all the time. Call me crazy, I don't care. My dogs will be there and love me way after that friend is gone.

Actually, my friends used to do that with their dog. If it keeps your Dog happy, then I don't think its insane or overprotective.

You know what is best for your dog, and you pay the electric bill. It's none of his business.
