What type of material should a bathroom exhaust vent pipe be?

We have added a bathroom to our house and are in the process of installing the exhaust fan. We have the flex duct going to the side of the house and we are going to run a pipe up through the eve of the roof. What material should the pipe (that is going to run up the side of the house) be? The city inspector told us and we can not remember. I think it needs to be galvanized metal my Hubs thinks schedule 40 PVC pipe............... who is right?

I would run it in galv. steel round duct here in Missouri, or thru a side wall with a dryer vent termination end. Code can vary a lot by location, but the way your husband suggests is the easier way, because you won't have to hook the metal to plastic, which would require a no hub connector band that will cost you an extra $15. unless it's a broan, pretty sure they are made to attach to plastic.

depends on the quality of your home. if you have a typical american temporary home; concrete blocks, 2x4's, plywood, durarock, shingles, things like that.....pvc is horribly toxic but should work for you or galvanized. if you have a quality home i would only use copper. all the best
