Is my story good so far? [chapter 1] - part 2?

The 2nd part of chapter 1

It was just over a thirty-minute drive but was definitely worth it. As you ascend up the lift, you can see the whole city in front of you and the bright blue sky up above. Only my mother’s vertigo starts kicking in about seven stories up and is unwilling to look down. After a short while we are at the top, my father decides for us to sit near the window so we can get a better view but my mother is cautious about it, preferring to sit on the far side of the table while my father takes the closest seat near the glass. We are served an Asian-styled entrée of dumplings and roast pork. My father loves it and digests it quicker than it takes for my sister to even start the dish. Overall the wedding has been a success and the choice of venues has made it even the more worthwhile attending. The smiles on peoples faces and the often exchange of hopeless jokes from the sixties just added to all the excitement. Then the world shakes. The glass smashes. The happiness once on everyone’s faces has now turned to utter shock and disbelief. The building opposite us is burning violently and thick black smoke emerges from where it was struck. Then it falls – towards us. I grab my sister and make my way for the stairs. My mother and father follow. The world is vibrating under my feet. Everyone is doing whatever they can to escape – jumping over people, barging through, diving down the stairs. After we’re some way down the stairs there’s a huge crash from above us and everyone falls to the ground. The building has collided with us. It rips straight through. I can hear the sounds of people screaming and calling for help but we can’t stop for anything. We hurry on, back on our feet down the stairs. I see a sign stating that we’re on the eighth floor. We need to find a faster way down. Then it’s almost as if all the gravity in the world just vanished. We’re falling – or I think we are. Then the walls smash open and we hit the rocky floor hard.

I realise my father is gone. The city is in chaos. I stare up at the black sky; I don’t believe I’m still alive. What just happened? Then a shining light darts through the sky. Impact.
