Is it appropriate to wear a ceremonial sword with a kilt?
I am wearing a traditional highland ensemble to a formal event and I am curious as to whether or not it is appropriate to wear a ceremonial saber with my outfit; if I were to be attending this event wearing trousers instead of a kilt, I would be wearing the sword.
So, does the sword go against the grain of the highland ensemble and should I go without it? Or will it be appropriate?

I guess you could. Swords and pistols are worn with "court" dress. Court dress is the name for an outfit that was worn in the presence of the king/queen at important ceremonial events. It might be going a bit far to wear this kind of dress to a wedding. But plenty of people (especially in the USA) would consider it OK.
These days, the trend for highland dress is to keep things simple. A dirk or a Sgian Dubh would be what you'd wear if you wanted to go this route. These are special short knives, the Sgian Dubh is usually worn in outside one sock.
I wouldn't wear the knives AND a sword! Good luck.

Sure you can wear a ceremonial sword with a kilt. In some of the army parades ceremonial swords are carried on the army garments which are worn by military people.
