There is no definitive proof although dogs are opportunists and from the beginning of time they would have chosen to find human contact as it would have been an easier way for them to get food than hunting their own..............................................

Well, Nativ americans kept wolves as pets 5000 years ago. They are developed forms of Wolves. It isn't actually known when the first dog was pet.

Where ever the first dog was that was being petted.
