Math Homework Algebra 2?

few problems I dont reall get here are instructions

Write an equation of the line that has the given properties.

slope: 1/2

y intercept:2

slope:1

point:(2,-3)

here is a longer problem.

Write an equation of the line that passes through (1,6) and is parallel to the line x-y=4

the solution of [x+2]=4 is

A) 2,-2

B)0,2

C)2,-4

D)2,-6

The inequality of -4<x<4

Update:

forgot to includes the details for the last The inequality of -4<x<4

A) Undefined

B)has No soulutions

C) Includes 0

D) includes 4

and since I got such a fast response here is one more problem

The points (1,2)(2,3)(3.4) and (4,5) lie on the line with equation

A) -x+y=1

B)x-y=1

C)x+y=1

D)x+y=-1

    The first one is asking you to use the y=mx+b (slope-intercept) form.

    Just plug in your values.

    m=slope=1/2

    b=y-inter.=2

    Your formula therefore is y=(1/2)x+2

    --------------------

    The second problem is asking for point-slope form (y-y1)=m(x-x1)

    You are once again given the slope (m=slope=1) but this time you are given a random point, so....

    x1 (given)=the point's x-value=2

    y1 (given)=the point's y-value=-3

    Plug them in and.....

    y-(-3)=(1)(x-2) Voila!!!

    You can shuffle things around a bit to get y=mx+b form, but it's not necessary.

    (y=(x-2)-3=x-5)

    --------------------

    To write a line formula, you need the slope, and you know that (as a parallel line) the line you are looking for will have the same slope as the given line (x-y=4).

    Shuffle things around a bit so that you isolate y.

    -y=4-x

    y=-4+x

    The coefficient of x gives you the slope, and since x only has the imaginary coefficient of 1, that is your slope.

    Now we get to use point-slope form again. Plug in your point.

    y-6=(1)(x-1) <<<Again, it works, but if you want it to look like y=mx+b....

    y=(x-1)+6=x+5

    --------------------

    |x+2|=4 >>> That give you two equations.

    First: x+2=4

    Second is the inverse, so pick a side and multiply it by -1. (I would choose the 4)

    Second: x+2=-4

    Now solve...

    x+2=4>>>x=4-2=2

    x+2=-4>>>x=-4-2=-6

    Your answer is D.

    1. y=1/2x+2(answer)

    This one you have to calculate

    -3=(1)2+b

    b=-5

    y=1x-5(answer)

    2. x-y=4

    y=x-4

    1=(1)(6)+b

    b=-5

    y=1x-5(answer)

    3. D
