Why didn't the bloke die at the end of Fight Club?

He shot himself in the face? How was that enough for him to kill his alterego but not to kill him?

Did he only have to injure himself, did the bullet go through his cheek or something? If that is the case then why didn't Brad Pitt die when Ed Norton was beating himself up in the car park or whatever?

I wasn't concentrating very hard on the movie so maybe I am missing something big - I was promised some Pixies at the end of the movie so I was waiting for that rather than concentrating on the plot!

Ok, to answer your question: Brad Pitt didn't die when they fought in the car par since Ed Norton's character didn't KNOW that was just his alter-ego. He thought it was some random guy who was trying to help him be more free. The reason that Brad Pitt died at the end was because in shooting Brad's character in the head (while Norton knew it was his alter ego) he was saying that he no longer wanted or needed Brad's character. So, in essence he was killing a part of his psyche. Norton didn't die because the bullet went through his cheek. He may have shot Brad through the head, but he only shot himself through the cheek. I would chalk that up to a person's own natural self preservation instincts.

Least that's how I saw it.

because he wanted to make himself believe that he was dead, thats why he shot himself.
