Teething Biscuits
Gerber puffs
yogurt melts
Baby mum mum (this is not from Gerber, but it tastes good, it looks and tastes like a big rice crispy) all these are good for snacks
Since he has no teeth he needs food that is easy to swallow and/or that disovles easy. You can give him the first and second foods and some table foods such as mashed potatos, beans that are cooked well that you can mash up steamed carrots mashed.

Gerber snacks are overpriced and completely unnecessary. If your baby can pick up and eat finger foods, he can eat any of a number of soft, healthy foods that you would buy for the rest of the family.
Crackers, healthy dry cereals, fruit, cheese shreds, cooked veggies, etc. Cheerios were the standard non-messy easy-to-eat take-anywhere baby snack for decades before Gerber puffs and suchlike came on the market. And cheerios cost a small fraction of what Gerber puffs will run you.
(While cheerios are hard when they come out of the box, they soften up very quickly in baby's mouth, so dont' worry that he'll choke or be unable to gum them up.)

Up until 1 year old, a baby's primary source of nutrition should still be formula or breastmilk. I agree with you, there are more nutrients in even jarred baby food than the zero you will find in bologna sandwiches and hot dogs (there is at least a little in pizza). Your day care provider sounds like a real winner. Never mind that she is feeding the older kids crap, she has given some to your son without any concern as to whether or not these foods have been introduced to him. You are lucky he has not had a reaction to anything. Tell her yes, she can feed him "real" food - pasta with vegetables, vegetable soups, healthy homemade casseroles, etc. A 9-month old is ready for table foods, but not processed, nutrient-void garbage. He can certainly eat bits of what you are eating - in fact, that is preferred to jarred foods - but it should be healthy. Starting him off with bologna and hot dogs at 9 months is a step towards unhealthy eating habits, digestive problems, and childhood obesity. I am not saying never feed a child these foods, an older child can certainly have a hot dog for lunch once in a while as a treat, but it is wrong to give these foods to a 9-month old.

My son is nearly 8 months too and he's been eating the puffs for a few weeks now. They come in a wide variety of options, both fruit and veggie flavors. He loves them. I get the generic brands from Walmart or Target though, or whatever is cheap. What I love about them is that they are really low in calories so he can snack without being overfed.

My kids always preferred Cheesy Poofs. (I made it easier on myself by getting the white cheddar kind to avoid orange stains) They are rough enough to help but, dissolve so choking is at a minimum although never leave him alone while eating. (yes, you probably know this) They have the biter biscuits from Gerber as well. Good Luck

your babe is old enough to begin to solid foods. serve the exact same healthy foods you feed the rest of the family -use a blender or potato masher to reduce texture. treat any pain from teething, wash all hands well, use the bulb syringe with saline drops to keep his nose clean, and let him chew on toys or suck on an ice cube wrapped in a cloth. if you have a medical concern, call the pediatrician.

my son loved the graduate puffs. they dissolve really well in babies mouths with all their slobber. i started out just giving him like a half one at a time until he got the hang of gumming them.
